Lumen Fest

Arrival at Cedar Lake

The yellow shuttle bus rattles to a stop at the edge of Cedar Lake. When the folding doors hiss open, a wave of warm pine air and distant drumbeats hits your face. Dust swirls in the late afternoon sun, coating your worn canvas jacket and the heaps of backpacks piled in the aisle.

Around you, thousands of young people stream past the timber checkpoint gates. Bright banners flutter between the tall trees, announcing the start of Lumen Fest with arrows pointing toward the Main Stage, the food trucks, Blue Zone camping, and the distant VIP Orange Zone. This weekend was supposed to be your group's sacred tradition—one last escape before college, jobs, and adult silence pull everyone into different orbits.

Leo grabs his heavy duffel bag and drops it into the dirt with a loud thud, stretching his broad shoulders.

Finally. If I spent another five minutes on that bus, I was going to lose my mind. Look at this place!

Nika steps down next, shielding her eyes with a laminated festival map. Her dark hair is pulled back, practical as always.

NIKA

The map says Blue Zone camping is on the north ridge. We need to grab space before the good spots are taken.

Sam stumbles off the bottom step, adjusting his oversized hoodie despite the summer heat. Behind him, Mira steps into the grass. She holds a small leather-bound sketchbook against her ribs, her curly hair catching the golden light. Her smile is gentle, but her fingers grip the book until her knuckles turn white.

MIRA

We really made it, Alex. Three whole days with no clocks.

Let's find our spot before Leo sets up a tent in the middle of the road.

You shoulder your pack and lead the way into the crowded campground, ready for whatever this weekend holds.
